CED looking for someone

The Council for Entrepreneurial Development www.cednc.org  is the place to get connected to the entrepreneurial community in RTP.  If you are interested in getting involved, working there can be a great way.  We've observed many people working at CED for a few years that use it as a great stepping stone to other positions in the entrepreneurial community.

See below.

-Howie

Entrepreneurial Development Program Manager

This position is responsible for conducting CED’s existing entrepreneurial development programs (FastTrac Tech, Entrepreneurs Only Workshops), as well as evaluating and devising other programs to support CED’s members at key stages in the entrepreneurial process.  The Program Manager also will be the primary contact with student entrepreneurs at area colleges and universities.

The Program Manager will have broad authority to create and implement CED’s program offerings, working with advisors and experts to meet the changing needs of business start-ups, later stage companies, and student entrepreneurs. The Programs Manager will report to the president, work closely with the Senior Program Managers for Life Sciences and Technology, and serve as a member of the senior management team.

Duties include:

1.                  Management

a.       Create and maintain advisory panels and partnerships with other entrepreneurial support organizations, including the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, to identify significant issues and opportunities for entrepreneurs.  As CED has not conducted a thorough review of its entrepreneurial development programs for some time, the initial work should focus on understanding the current market conditions for business start-ups and early stage companies locally and how CED can best support that work. The goal will be to establish a “CED Institute” of tiered programs, based on an entrepreneur’s needs and readiness

b.      Develop strategic goals and outcomes for CED entrepreneurial development programs based on feedback from the advisory panels and the marketplace; evaluate all activities annually against goals

c.       Create annual plan, with budget and timeline, for CED entrepreneurial development programs

d.      Supervise contractors and volunteer staff to plan and implement major entrepreneurial development programs

e.       Participate in strategic planning

2.                  Program Creation

a.       Responsible for creating full range of support programs for high-growth, high-impact companies, recruiting and training instructors, mentors and coaches for FastTrac Tech and other entrepreneurial support programs. Programs may include partnerships with outside groups, include business competitions, one-time seminars and training programs, and hosting speakers

b.      Establish teams from NCIDEA, NC Biotechnology Center, CED staff and partners to recruit and screen applicants for appropriate placement in the “CED Institute”

c.       Responsible for working with Senior Program Managers for Life Science and Technology to identify presenting companies for Venture conference or other showcase

d.      Serve as liaison to student entrepreneurs within CED’s target geographic region; create and oversee student internship programs with University partners

3.                  Outreach

a.       Serve as CED representative for entrepreneurial development partnerships

b.      Responsible for making presentations to internal and external audiences on CED’s entrepreneurial support programs and initiatives

c.       Responsible for working with investors and support organizations to make appropriate connections for business start-ups and early stage companies

d.      Responsible for assisting the president and development director to identify potential funders for entrepreneurial development programs

Job Requirements: The preferred candidate will be an experienced nonprofit program manager who can demonstrate deep understanding of the needs of entrepreneurs and start-up companies.  The candidate will have excellent organizational, written and verbal communications skills, and will enjoy working collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues and volunteers. The position requires a minimum B.A. or B.S degree, with an advanced degree preferred. A minimum of two years experience in nonprofit program management or related work is required, with preference given for additional years of experience.

Job performance measurement:

  • Successful creation and interaction with advisory panels and committees, resulting in the creation and execution of a “CED Institute” of tiered entrepreneurial development programs
  • Successful collaboration with the Kauffman Foundation in the implementation of 3 annual FastTrac Tech programs, including compliance with training and reporting requirements
  • Achieving minimum attendance and customer satisfaction goals at entrepreneurial development events determined in the annual plan
